Your father has entered hospice, the doctor says he may have only days to live and then you discover he never completed an estate plan. What can you still do?
Nick Rosenbauer explains what emergency estate planning can look like when time is running out. If a person still has the necessary mental capacity, it may be possible to complete some planning, but finding an attorney who can act within 48β72 hours, arrange home or hospital visits, and prepare the necessary documents can be difficult.
And there’s another question families shouldn’t overlook: even if you can scramble to get documents completed, is that how your loved one and family want to spend those final days?
Hereβs some of what we discuss in this episode:
β³ Mental capacity determines whether last-minute planning is possible.
π Some planning may be better than none.
π¨ Emergency estate planning requires immediate action.
βοΈ You may not have time to complete everything.
β€οΈ Consider how you want to spend those final days.
